Individuals and cultures are not equal.
The American Declaration of Independence says “All men are created equal.”. In the historical context of the American revolt against King George III, this statement was quite satisfactory. But as a statement of a broad general principle, it was really a horrible blunder by Thomas Jefferson.
He should have said, “All men are created with equal rights.”.
Men are conspicuously not equal. Some men are “superior” to others in ability. Some men are “better” than others in intelligence. Consider any attribute – honesty, industry, creativity, strength, whatever. Men are not equal. It may not be polite to say so. But to think otherwise, is not just stupid, but moronic.
The doctrine of Communism is that men are equal, and therefore they should have equal property. This idea instantly makes all men slaves who own nothing.
“Liberty” means every individual of any description can do and say whatever he wants to do and say. It means he can keep what he has or give it or trade it freely.
That civilization is best which has the most Liberty.
Western civilization is better than other civilizations, not because it is Western, not because it is our civilization, but because it has more Liberty.
The idea that all civilizations are equal is promoted in order to destroy Liberty. If Americans can be persuaded that all civilizations are equal, then they will believe that their own Liberty has no value.
Equality is nothing. Liberty is everything.
