THE RICHTER SCALE
The quantity of energy released by an earthquake is commonly expressed by using the Richter scale. An earthquake which is 9 on the Richter scale is ten times bigger than an earthquake of 8. A Richter 8 earthquake is ten times bigger than a Richter 7 earthquake. And so on. A Richter 9 earthquake is a thousand times bigger than a Richter 6 earthquake. It’s ten times bigger, and ten times bigger than that, and ten times bigger than that – which makes it one thousand times bigger.
Each increase of one on the Richter scale means the earthquake is ten times bigger.
One can say that something is bigger or smaller than something else. Joe lives next door. Bill lives down the street. That’s a greater distance. The star Sirius is 9 light years away. The star Arcturus is 37 light years away. That’s a greater distance. But what if we are comparing the distance to Joe’s house and the distance to Arcturus? A light year is 6 trillion miles (6 million million miles). The distance to Arcturus is really a whole lot bigger than the distance to Joe’s house. It’s a whole different range. This is described by saying it is a different “order of magnitude”.
One “order of magnitude” is commonly understood to be a factor of ten. If something is roughly ten times bigger, faster, farther, or whatever, then that is said to be an order of magnitude bigger. If it’s a hundred times bigger, that’s two orders of magnitude. If it’s a thousand times bigger, then it’s three orders of magnitude – or more vaguely, “several orders of magnitude”.
When we say that “things are bad” in politics and world affairs, we need to estimate what order of magnitude of bad are we talking about. If we take some incident or some condition as one unit of “bad”, how bad is the world scene? Is it 10% worse? 50% worse? Twice as bad? Ten times as bad? A thousand times as bad? A million times as bad? What order of magnitude of bad is it? What ball park are we in? What range? What realm? What rough level of badness are we talking about?
STAR WARS EPISODE II AND EPISODE III
In movies, conspiracy is almost never portrayed as an evil organization which controls high Government Officials and which creates wars, overthrows governments, and enslaves populations. Movies, even if they portray a conspiracy of some kind, do not even approach this order of magnitude of evil.
The great exception to this rule is the movie “Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones”. The bad guys secretly create a war against their own government. Then they use the crisis to vastly increase their own power in that same government. Count Dooku, a bad guy, explains to Obi-Wan Kenobi, a good guy, “Hundreds of Senators are now under the influence of a Sith Lord called Darth Sidious.”. Darth Sidious is a bad guy, and is secretly the same as Chancellor Palpatine, who everyone thinks is a good guy. Obi-Wan says, “I don’t believe you.”. The legislative body is controlled by the Conspiracy. Someone who is good, smart, and well-informed, nevertheless is completely ignorant of what is really going on. When he has it explained to him by a high level bad guy, he still doesn’t believe it.
The movie “Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith” continues the story. It shows treason, fiendish plots, multiple betrayals, and wars started and stopped by those at the pinnacle of power. When the chancellor announces the creation of the empire, the girl senator, a good guy – Padme Amidala – says “So this is how Liberty dies. With thunderous applause.”.
This is the correct order of magnitude of evil, except that in our case we are only talking about Planet Earth, and not the whole galaxy. Otherwise, it is very similar to our situation.
The biggest justification used by Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader to explain what he is doing is that he is bringing peace and security to the galaxy. But the wars and the insecurity which he is allegedly handling were caused by him and by his conspiratorial group in the first place. This is just like here on Planet Earth now!
IS IT ABSURD TO THINK THAT 9/11 WAS AN INSIDE JOB?
Ridicule is a very great weapon used to attack the idea that 9/11 was an “inside job”, and similar ideas of conspiracy. A great many psychological explanations are given about why someone would think something so absurd. Large quantities of very disrespectful language are used against people who think any such thoughts.
It is presented as a self-evident truth that it could not have been an inside job. That’s ridiculous! How could it be? Only a moron, or some other derogatory term, could even think such a thought! That’s the argument. That’s the totality of the argument. Then we go on to psychological explanations about how he hates black people, or his mother wasn’t nice to him, or whatever.
The reason it looks absurd to suppose that 9/11 was an inside job, is because we are at the wrong order of magnitude of evil.
Let’s say the President is having sex with his secretary. Maybe the FBI has photographs of Congressman Smith taking money from criminals. Perhaps Senator Jones is using his expense account to take his girlfriend around the world. OK. This is bad. But it’s bad at a very low order of magnitude. This is a nice lukewarm order of magnitude. Nobody is going to lose any sleep over this. It’s an acceptable order of magnitude. It’s easy to believe.
But what if we say the government blew up the WorldTradeCenter. That’s a much bigger order of magnitude. That is a level of evil several orders of magnitude greater. Perhaps many orders of magnitude greater. Maybe a million times greater. Maybe a billion times greater.
One argument against the idea that 9/11 was an inside job is that President Bush was just not smart enough to pull off such an operation. But again that’s the wrong order of magnitude. It’s the wrong order of magnitude of conspiracy. It assumes that President Bush is in charge. But nowadays, the President is a puppet, a figurehead, a script reader. Also, the President doesn’t plan military operations anyway.
There was no plane that flew into Building 7. Why did Building 7 fall down? The 9/11 Commission Report does not even mention the collapse of Building 7.
A “put” is a bet that a stock will go down. Just before 9/11, some people bought a large number of puts on airline stocks. Were they just lucky? Or did they know in advance? How did they know?
There are many such questions. They point to it being an inside job.
More than that. Most of the evidence was destroyed before it could be studied. Nevertheless, the evidence which exists is conclusive, for those willing to look, that the buildings were destroyed by controlled demolition with explosives. So then the question is, who did it? And then the question is, who could have done it? And then you are immediately into theories about a great evil conspiracy.
If you want to avoid such theories, then you are forced by your confidence in government to conclude that, “Well, it makes no sense to me. But there are experts who have studied it. I’m sure that they have some explanation that makes sense. It’s all too technical for me. I don’t have time to study it.”.
But perhaps you are uncomfortable with this high level of trust in government officials. Perhaps you don’t want to ignore all those experts – architects, engineers, physicists, demolition specialists, and so forth – who say that the government’s explanation does not make any sense, that the government is lying to us, and that it was obviously controlled demolition. If so, then you have another alternative. You can ask yourself, “Is it possible that the government and our leaders are several orders of magnitude more evil than I have ever imagined?”.

It features Richard Gage, an architect, a member of AIA, the American Institute of Architects, and founder of Architects & Engineers for 9/11 Truth. It is a brilliant and masterful presentation. It gives proof far beyond “a reasonable doubt”. Notably at 1:40:40 it gives New York Mayor Giuliani saying in his own voice “We were told that the WorldTradeCenter was going to collapse.”. Oh? Who told him? And how did that person know? Richard Gage, the featured speaker giving the presentation, says “We’re not conspiracy theorists.”. Nonsense. When you have just demonstrated conclusively that the government at the highest levels is suppressing the truth and is blatantly lying in their official reports, then you are instantly in the thick of “conspiracy theories”. Richard Gage himself gives a fine presentation of this problem in the last 11 minutes of the video, starting at 1:41:07. He says, “The implications of this are absolutely staggering.” Very true.
