“Disinformation” is false and confusing information that is put out by a government as if it were true, in order to confuse people who are trying to figure out what is really going on.
One example of “disinformation” is false defectors from Russia, when Russia was openly an enemy. Sometimes there would be a real defector who left Communism and who wanted to give helpful information to America. But in many cases, the alleged defector would be a plant. The alleged defector would really be an agent sent out to pretend to defect. This false defector would then tell the Americans something that the Russians wanted the Americans to believe.
The production of “disinformation” by the American government has enormously increased in recent years. This is because the existence of the Conspiracy is becoming a great deal more obvious than it has been in the past. The 9/11 cover-up is extremely weak. A very small examination of the evidence reveals the absurdity of the official government story. The bailout of the banks is wildly outrageous. Obamacare is obvious tyranny. Universal surveillance of everything by the National Security Agency is blatantly unconstitutional.
The hatred of the American people for many things being done by the government is becoming much more intense. There are many cases where state, county, and local governments are fighting back against federal tyranny.
The government wants to mislead and confuse all the opposition to their obvious lies and tyrannical actions. So they send out large numbers of “disinformation agents”. These agents purport to have some kind of inside information. Sometimes they propound some “conspiracy theory” which is just stupid. Their mission, collectively, is to discredit anyone who disagrees with the government’s official story on anything. Their mission is to mislead, to confuse, to create controversy, to create apathy, to create despair, and to leave everyone in a state of bewildered hopelessness.
It is hard enough to figure out what’s going on. If you accept one of the politically correct opinions, then you have lots of support and agreement. Maybe you are a dedicated Republican. Maybe you are a dedicated Democrat. Maybe you are a dedicated Leftist. Maybe you are a big fan of one of the major political commentators. That is really easy.
But maybe you say “Something is rotten in the state of Denmark.”. Maybe you say, “None of these socially acceptable ideas makes any sense.” Then you set yourself adrift in a sea of confusion and controversy. What is wrong? How wrong is it? Who is doing it? There are no obvious answers. You are condemned and denounced and attacked from all sides.
The purpose of disinformation is to make this condition much worse, so that only the bravest will venture forth away from the safe harbor of politically correct opinions, whether Leftist opinions, or opinions on the Right, or some other opinion which is “socially acceptable”.
The brave man or woman does not ask, “Will I be embarrassed if I tell other people what I am thinking?”. He or she asks, “Does what I am thinking really make sense?”. Such a man or woman deserves to be free. Such a man or woman has some hope of being free.
