CHRISTIANITY SUPPORTS RIGHTS
In the Biblical Ten Commandments, the Sixth Commandment is “Thou shalt not kill.”. The Eighth Commandment is “Thou shalt not steal.”. These two rules are very basic in Christianity and in Judaism.
Regardless of whether you like Christianity or not, these two rules are very good rules. In fact, they are essential to a happy and prosperous civilization. If people are free to kill and to steal whenever they please, no one is safe, and prosperity is impossible. Western Civilization is based on Christianity. The enforcement of these two rules by Christian rulers has a very great deal to do with the rise of science and technology and prosperity in the West.
In politics, and apart from religion, these two rules are known as the Right to Life, and the Right to Property. Without these two rights, Liberty and prosperity are not possible.
In the Bible, in Chapter 1 of Genesis, God says “Let us make man … and let them have dominion … over all the earth”. Thus Christians think that they should go out and take charge and make things happen. This is a very good attitude.
Christians may believe that they are sinners. But they also believe that God created them to have “dominion over all the earth”. So they are not bashful about doing things. They think that doing things is good. They have to follow the rules, like not killing and not stealing. But there is plenty of room for action and for creativity. There is plenty of room for business and for profit.
In the Bible, in Chapter 25 of the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus tells the “Parable of the Talents”. A rich man gives money to each of three servants. A long time later he returns. Two of the servants have doubled their money. The third servant buried his money and has no profit. The two enterprising servants are praised and rewarded. The third servant who has no profit is condemned and punished.
Thus Christianity has established the Right to Life and the Right to Property in Western Civilization. In addition, it has endorsed the rightness and goodness of going out into the world and being creative and enterprising and industrious and making a lot of money. Thus in recent centuries we have had various European empires, the greatest of which was the British Empire.
COMMUNISM IS DISHONEST
Socialism is a milder approach than revolution. It is milder than “the forcible overthrow of all existing social conditions”. But it is also less honest. It is deceptive. It is deceitful. The Communists advocating the gradual confiscation of all businesses by the government will never admit that their goal is total confiscation. That would alert and alarm the enemy, those who believe in the Right to Property. It would alert everyone who does not want the government to steal everything they own. At least when Communists are working on “the forcible overthrow of all existing social conditions”, it is very obvious what they are trying to do.
Thus Communism favors lies. The Biblical Ninth Commandment is “Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.”. Thus Christians favor the truth.
CHRISTIAN RULES AND COMMUNIST RULES
Christians have five rules they live by.
CHRISTIAN RULES:
#1. KILLING IS BAD.
#2. STEALING IS BAD.
#3. HAVING THINGS IS GOOD.
#4. MAKING A PROFIT IS GOOD.
#5. TRUTH IS GOOD.
Communism reverses these rules.
COMMUNIST RULES:
#1. ANYONE WHO OWNS ANYTHING SHOULD BE KILLED.
#2. ANYONE WHO OWNS ANYTHING SHOULD HAVE IT STOLEN.
#3. HAVING THINGS IS BAD.
#4. MAKING A PROFIT IS BAD.
#5. LIES ARE GOOD.
