It is much harder to change a whole belief system than to change one isolated belief. A “belief system” is a combination of related beliefs which support each other. A shift from one belief system to another cannot be done in small steps.
Therefore there is an intellectual leap involved. The way to do this is to set up both belief systems in your mind operating simultaneously. This does not mean that you believe two or more things which contradict each other. It only means that you recognize that there can be two or more theories which might explain the available data.
A scientist gathers as much data as he can. Then he tries to think up the best theory he can which explains the data. He can call each theory a “hypothesis”. A “hypothesis” is a tentative explanation. It is subject to further examination, investigation, and experimentation. There can be many hypotheses, each of which is contradictory to all the others. It’s like a murder mystery. Did the butler do it? Or was it the cook? Each suspect is the guilty party according to one theory or hypothesis. Then our hero, Sherlock Holmes, interviews the witnesses and examines the evidence, in an effort to discover the truth with certainty.
A belief in conspiracy is the ultimate in “politically incorrect”. This is forbidden knowledge.
You might lose your friends. You might even lose your job. If you are in business, you might lose customers.
Therefore you need independence of spirit.
It is also bad news. The world is actually a very unfriendly place. Maybe you didn’t know that before now. Maybe you are just finding that out. Maybe you are not persuaded yet.
But you need courage to deal with it. You have formidable adversaries who do not wish you well. If you want to be free, if you want your children to be free, you better do something about it.
Copernicus was the man who said the Earth goes around the Sun, when everybody else believed the Sun was going around the Earth. Switching from a conventional belief system to a belief in the Great Conspiracy of the Super Rich is similar. It is a major change. It is a “Copernican shift”.
The joy of discovery can be mixed with the horror of what it is you are discovering.
Patrick Henry, the great American patriot, said, “It is natural to man to indulge in the illusions of hope. We are apt to shut our eyes against a painful truth, and listen to the song of that siren till she transforms us into beasts. Is this the part of wise men, engaged in a great and arduous struggle for liberty? Are we disposed to be of the number of those who, having eyes, see not, and, having ears, hear not …? For my part, whatever anguish of spirit it may cost, I am willing to know the whole truth; to know the worst, and to provide for it.”.
Brace yourself for battle! Resolve, with Patrick Henry, that whatever anguish of spirit it may cost, you are willing to know the whole truth, to know the worst, and to provide for it!
